Past…

During the spring of 2004, Ateliers Varan, the world renowned documentary cinema institution from Paris, held an intensive three-month film workshop in Belgrade, the outcome of which was eleven short documentary films by eleven young filmmakers.

Fueled by the enthusiasm of the workshop, these eleven filmmakers (that’s us!) formed their own association named Atelier Varan Belgrade.

We immediately produced a DVD edition of the eleven films subtitled in English, and entered numerous film festivals around the globe. So far, these films have been shown in Motovun Film Festival, DokART (Neubrandenburg), Leipzig Documentary Film Festival, Shadow Film Festival (Amsterdam), Alternative Film/Video Festival (Belgrade), Zagreb Film Festival, Cinema du Reel (Paris) and many more. We’ve also organised a number of screenings and public presentations in Serbia.

In November 2004 we received funding from the European Agency for Reconstruction and the Embassy of France in Belgrade, to produce a series of 7 documentaries entitled Serbia Vérité.

Fast forward a full year of sweat, blood and tears, and Atelier Varan Belgrade has produced 8 more documentaries.

Present…

We’re currently in the midst of our third workshop—KINO:VÉRITÉ which has gathered 12 participants from all over the ex-Yugoslav republics.
That’s it for now… and if you would like to learn more about the course of the workshop, check out our blog.
