In the Summer of 2007 an intensive documentary filmmaking workshop will be held in Belgrade, Serbia, with 12 participants coming from former Yugoslav republics.

Who is behind this?

Mentors in this workshop are experienced film authors from Ateliers Varan, the world renowned documentary film school from Paris. Atelier Varan Belgrade, its offspring based in Serbia, is managing the project.

With 25 years of experience and around 1,000 films produced, Ateliers Varan (www.ateliersvaran.com) gathers filmmakers who believe in enriching their skills by sharing knowledge and experience. This workshop, run by experts from Ateliers Varan – Jean-Noël Cristiani, Renaud Personnaz and Claudio Martinez – aims to teach a specific approach and way of presenting cultural identity and every-day reality by means of image and sound, all via practical work. Similar workshops have been organised throughout the world, in numerous countries (e.g. Cambodia, Norway, Romania, Columbia, Portugal, Serbia, ...). Ateliers Varan has an established reputation of one of the best centres for documentary film training in the world.

Atelier Varan Belgrade (www.varan.org.yu) has produced 20 documentaries in the past three years and now has one of the strongest young independent documentary productions in the region.
